You could create a list of qualified Architects in the region and call them for a brief discussion about your project and if that clicks you could plan to meet the shortlisted architects in person, show them the Site where you want the build your project.
Approach & Chemistry
You could ask several questions about the Firm's Design Philosophy, their approach to work, Team Strength, Availability to take on your work, etc.
You should also notice the chemistry you're forming with the Architect, because you are going to spend a lot of time interacting with each other & meeting on several occasions, it should be a comfortable interaction working as a team.
Professional Fees
There is no benchmark on professional fees that Architects charge and it all depends on the deliverables that they are offering. You should ask for a formal proposal from the Architect with all the deliverables mentioned in the Scope of Works and this shall give you a clarity as well as form a good comparison between potential shortlisted candidates.
