Container Courtyard House in Jodhpur is a contemporary residential project by Oreira Studio that explores adaptive reuse and climate-responsive design. By combining repurposed shipping containers with locally sourced stone, the project creates a unique desert dwelling that balances industrial efficiency with contextual sensitivity.

Design Concept :
The design is structured around a central courtyard that acts as the heart of the home, organizing circulation and connecting different functional zones. This open space introduces light, air, and a sense of openness within an otherwise enclosed built form.
The juxtaposition of solid stone volumes and lightweight container modules creates a dynamic architectural language that balances permanence with flexibility.
Climate responsive strategy:
Climate responsiveness is a key driver of the design. Solid stone walls provide thermal mass, reducing heat gain and enhancing indoor comfort, while carefully positioned openings allow for controlled daylight and cross ventilation.
Shading devices, pergolas, and recessed openings further protect the interiors from harsh sunlight, making the house well-suited to the desert climate of Jodhpur.
Material & Architectural Expression:
The project combines industrial and natural materials to create a distinctive yet cohesive identity. Shipping containers are adapted to accommodate interior spaces, while stone surfaces ground the structure within its local context.
This contrast between raw industrial elements and traditional materials results in a layered architectural expression that feels both contemporary and rooted.
